FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We are always available to answer specific questions you may have regarding our Little Earth Adventures, but there are a few questions we get all the time that we can answer for you right here.
ABOUT CAMPING
Whether you are a seasoned camper or you've never slept outside a night in your life, we are here to make your time in nature as comfortable as possible. Below are some answers that will help ease any anxiety you may have around being fully immersed in nature.
Do I need to have camping experience?
Unless otherwise noted, no camping experience is required for our trips. In fact, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to teach you how to camp in a way that is safe, comfortable, and convenient for you.
Can I get a refund?
Please see our Refund Policy for more information.
Can you accomodate my dietary needs?
All participants will fill out allergy information and dietary restrictions on the intake form for each trip. If you indicate you need something specific such as gluten-free foods, they will be provided. The same goes for vegetarian and vegan options.
Do I have to do all the activities offered?
None of our activities are required. We believe in the spirit of invitation. You will be invited to participate in every activity, but may choose to spend your time privately in your own manner.
What do I need to bring?
Every trip will include a detailed packing list, an itinerary, and a list of the items we can provide.
Are there bugs?
While we do what we can to mitigate the presence of biting insects like mosquitoes and gnats, there will be periods of the day where their presence is more likely. Bringing bug repellent that works well for you is recommended, and we will have some for your use on-site. There have been tics on the property, and daily tic checks are highly recommended.
Is there cell phone service?
Every location is different, and every cell provider has different coverage. Our Stone Mountain Farm location has service throughout most of the grounds. Our remote camping locations vary and details on this will be provided in your welcome packet.
Will there be electricity? Can I charge my devices?
For the most part, we do not provide access to electricity unless you have signed up for one of our glamping-style retreats. If you stay at a glamping site, you will have access to Wi-Fi and electricity.
What do I do if I or my child need to take medications?
If you are an adult, you will bring and take your own medications as needed. For school trips with students and children, we will have a wilderness EMT on-site designated to dispense medications to minors as instructed by a provided doctor’s note.
Are sleeping arrangements co-ed?
For our adult trips, you may choose to tent with whomever you wish, or alone. You may bring your own tent or we can provide you one.

For our student trips, tent groups will be decided ahead of time by the school
What is the guide-to-client ratio?
We will always have at least a 1:12 guide-to-client ratio. We believe close attention should be given to each participant.
What fitness level is required?
While we can accommodate many levels of fitness, if you have serious mobility challenges you will be limited in your ability to participate in certain invitations such as hiking, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and other outdoor recreational activities. We recommend that you be able to walk a mile without stopping to be able to take full advantage of our offerings. However, if you are limited in your mobility, we will not turn you away. There are many offerings you can still participate in that have the potential to make your time with us very worthwhile.
What if the weather is bad?
We believe that nature immersion often means being with nature in all of its moods. To that end we will require that folks bring the proper apparel for protection against the elements, and will provide refuge areas from rain and wind whenever necessary. If the weather looks like we won’t be able to be outside or if it’s truly dangerous, we may reschedule or cancel the trip, in which case we would offer credit for another adventure experience.
Is my travel to the destination included in the price?
No. While we may provide a shuttle from a local bus or train station to our destination, we cannot cover your travel expenses. We provide everything once you arrive, but you are responsible for getting yourself to our location and for getting yourself home.
Can I bring my service animal?
No. While we love animals, there are too many complications they present for us to reasonably accommodate service animals.
What is the plan in case of a medical emergency?
In a minor medical situation, we will care for you on-site. However, if we deem the situation to be beyond the scope of our care, we will call for transport to the nearest medical center. This varies based on the site of our program. When participating in a program at Stone Mountain Farm the nearest hospital is in Kingston, NY at the Health Alliance Hospital Emergency Department, 105 Mary's Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401.
